Coronavirus: Dr.Patrick Amoth gives guidelines for home-based isolation

Acting Health Director-General Dr. Patrick Amoth on Sunday gave guidelines for home-based isolation for Covid-19 suspected or positive cases.

Mr.Amoth said as cases continue to rise, the World Health Organization (WHO) is guiding how patients can be isolated at home.

“As the cases continue to rise, there will be a need for home-based isolation that has to follow WHO guidelines,” he said

Top among the requirements, the home caregivers should have Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), he said

Other guidelines for home-based isolation facilities:

  • Caregivers to have thermometers.
  • Home-based isolation facilities to identify referral hospitals.
  • Proper waste disposal.
  • Training of caregivers at home-based isolation facilities.
  • Limited interaction between patients and other family members.
  • Caregivers to liaise with trained community health workers on other practices.

On Sunday, Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Mutahi Kagwe confirmed 167 more cases, reaching the total 2767. Also the CS announced 46 new recoveries, totaling the discharges to 752. Sadly, one person succumbed to Covid-19.

Mr. Amoth was making the first Covid-19 update after he attended a burial in Nyeri that had over 200 attendees on Friday.

It is reported that Mr. Amoth was sent to Nyeri by his boss CS Mutahi Kagwe.
