CJ Koome swears in new Public Service Commission CEO Famba

Chief Justice Martha Koome on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, swore in the new CEO and Secretary of the Public Service Commission (PSC) for a five-year term.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Judiciary noted that Paul Famba was officially joining the service after his appointment in June 2024.

“Chief Justice Martha Koome today presided over the swearing-in of Mr Paul Famba as the CEO/Secretary to the Public Service Commission (PSC), at the Supreme Court,” the statement said.

In the interviews which were conducted between May 22, 2024, and May 23, 2024, Famba was among the 11 candidates shortlisted for the position.

The other candidates were Brian Muithya Mutie, Judy Wangechi, Irene Cherotich Asienga, Sylvester Odhiambo Obong’o, Mahat Osman Shale (PWD), Joan Machayo, Christopher Leparan Tialal, Bahati Keranga Mwita, Gababo Dido Jillo and Juliana Nashipae Yiapan.

On June 5, 2024, the PSC chairperson Anthony Muchiri announced that the commission had settled on Famba for a five-year term beginning August 1, 2024.

“The Public Service Commission (PSC) has appointed Mr Paul Famba as the CEO/Secretary of the Public Service Commission for a period of five years from August 1, 2024,” PSC stated.

“The incoming CEO brings to the commission a wealth of experience as a career administrator, having served in senior positions in government,” PSC added.

Famba’s experience

Before his appointment to the PSC, Famba was the secretary of administration at the Ministry of Interior and National Coordination.

Also, he served as an assistant County commissioner, protocol officer, deputy county commissioner, and director of administration.

“In recognition of his outstanding service to the nation, he was awarded the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS) and Order of the Grand Warrior by the President.

“The Commission takes this opportunity to welcome and congratulate Mr Famba on his new appointment,” a statement on his appointment read.

The CEO is the accounting officer and the head of the secretariat at the commission. Similarly, he is the custodian of the seal of the commission.

Famba holds a Master of Arts in Peace and Conflict Management from Kenyatta University and a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Nairobi.

He will be replacing Simon Rotich whose tenure as Commission Secretary/CEO came to an end in July 2024.
