Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has made a political about-turn, ditching Deputy President William Ruto whose State House ambitions he has been actively supporting.

The governor said that he regrets his initial decision to back the DP despite calls by President Uhuru Kenyatta for leaders to stop early campaigns and focus on development.

The decision came after the governor was left out in the list of county chiefs from Mount Kenya who met President Kenyatta in Mombasa last Friday in what was seen as an effort to regain his political grip of the region.

Those who met Uhuru were Francis Kimemia (Nyandarua), Anne Waiguru(Kirinyaga),Kiraitu Murungi(Meru) and Ndiritu Mureithi( Laikipia).

Kahiga who spoke during an interview on a local radio station said that the repeated visits by DP Ruto in Nyeri County had left him convinced that he held brief for President Kenyatta only to realise later that this was not true.

“DP Ruto has been in Nyeri for many times and I have been attending his functions as the county governor. I have however come to realise that things are totally different from what I initially thought,” he said.
