Saboti Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has warned President William Ruto to brace himself for a bumpy and slippery journey as he navigates through the vote-rich Western region to woo voters ahead of the 2027 elections.

Taking to his official X account on Monday, November 11, 2024, Amisi stated that the Head of State is strategizing to get the Mulembe Nation votes at a throw-away price.

According to the second-term Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker, President Ruto is trying to woo Western Kenya voters through political brokers, whom Amisi has termed as perennial political dinosaurs.

This, Amisi says, is because votes from other regions have a price tag, unlike the Western Kenya region.

However, the lawmaker warns that the plan will not be as easy as the president may have thought, arguing that the Western Kenya region will not be a walk in the park.

He further states that winning the Mulembe Nation votes might be difficult for President Ruto because of historical injustices.

“Ruto wants western votes next election at a throw-away price through the perennial political dinosaurs, ostensibly because Kikuyu votes have a price tag. Well, think twice. Vindu vichenjanga (Things change). Western will not be a walk in the park because of historical injustices!” Amisi stated.

Ruto courts western

President Ruto has maintained key political players from the Western region in his government.

Ford Kenya party leader and National Assembly Speakers Moses Wetang’ula, and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi who doubles up as Foreign Affairs CS and Acting Interior CS, are the perceived political kingpins of the Western Kenya region.

Ruto has also been traversing the region, with his latest tour being on Sunday, November 10, 2024, where he attended a church service at the Church of God in Khwisero Sub-County, Kakamega County.

President Ruto has also been courting the Nyanza region, which is part of the large Western Kenya, by working with Raila Odinga, the region’s political Kingpin.

Ruto’s dalliance with the former Prime Minister has seen him dish Cabinet slots to Raila’s ODM Party which saw John Mbadi, Hassan Joho, Opiyo Wandayi and Wycliffe Oparanya join the government as Cabinet Secretaries.

To further win the hearts of the Nyanza region people, President Ruto has vowed to deploy the available resources to ensure that Raila wins the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship in the upcoming February 2025 AUC polls.
