Why women progress in HR profession more than men

The lack of soft skills among men is hampering the growth of male Human Resource officers. The profession continues to be less lucrative despite having evolved to modern trends where men do not necessarily need to have the soft skills.
Sharon Kisire, the chair of Human Resource Management Professionals Examinations Board (HRMPEB) said men should embrace the new trends to keep the profession alive for the male gender.
“The HR position is changing, previously it was more of the caring but now there are many areas of practice that are coming in, you can be a HR Business partner, you can be a trainer, you can do analytic things that we didn’t have before,” she said. Kisire was speaking during the release of the 2021’s Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP) Examinations results by Human Resource Management Professionals Examinations Board.
Data indicates the number of men undertaking the course dipped further from 23 per cent last year to 19.5 per cent of the candidates this year.
It shows that in this 11th cohort out of the total 1,330 candidates who sat the exams only 259 (19.5) per cent were male and 1,071 (80.5 per cent) were female.
Kisire also disclosed that IHRM shall collaborate with the HRMPEB to improve certification of HR Professionals across the country.
However, the HR professionals are still grappling with latest work trends that have taken over the job market.
