Government agencies yet to migrate to the e-Citizen platform must do so before December 31st this year, President William Ruto has ordered.

While addressing the Nation from Uhuru Gardens during this year’ Jamhuri Day in Tuesday, the highlight of which was Kenya celebrating 60 years of independence, Ruto said this move was a commitment to administering all revenue in a transparent, efficient, and secure manner.

Ruto pointed out that one of his administration’s most effective interventions has been the use of digital technology and the migration of government revenue collection to a single paybill.

Enhancing transparency

He observed that since the implementation of this measure, there has been a significant rise in total revenues collected, attributing this increase not only to enhanced revenue collection, but also to the elimination of revenue leakages through corruption and theft.

“It is important that we sustain this progress in promoting integrity, transparency and efficiency in revenue management. And for this reason, I direct that all agencies observe the December 31 deadline to finalise the migration to the e-Citizen platform,” Ruto said.

Authorities have been leveraging digital technology to improve its services, increase revenue, and promote transparency and efficiency.

Last week, Secretary to the Cabinet Mercy Wanjau said Kenyans can now access more than 14,000 government services on the e-Citizen platform.

The Kenyan Government’s decision to have all agencies migrate to Paybill Number 222222 is aimed at digitizing government services and improving efficiency.

By using a single Paybill number, the government will centralize all payments for government services, making it easier to track and manage transactions.

The move is also expected to eliminate data loss and grey areas that can occur when multiple payment platforms are used, as well as simplifying the payment process for users, who only need to remember one Paybill number.

This will also make it easier for Treasury to account for every government service that is paid for, helping to improve transparency and accountability.
