Ruto breaks ground for construction of green fertiliser plant in Nakuru

President William Ruto has re-embarked on his development tour in Nakuru County, the latest development project being the groundbreaking for the construction of the KenGen-Kaishan Olkaria Green Fertiliser Plant in the devolved unit.

Speaking while presiding over the exercise on Monday, November 3 2025, the Head of State described the initiative as a defining moment for Kenya’s green industrial transformation.

Ruto’s goodies for Nakuru

”This venture is a historic stride for Kenya, and indeed for Africa, as we boldly match our words with tangible action in advancing sustainable manufacturing. The KSh100 billion Olkaria project is a powerful symbol of what happens when energy, technology, and vision unite in purpose,” Ruto said via X.

President William Ruto revealed that the particular initiative will create room for more than 20,000 job opportunities and cut the import bill by more than Ksh60 billion annually.

”It will produce more than 480,000 tonnes of fertiliser annually, ensuring our farmers have a reliable, affordable, and locally produced supply. And that is only the beginning. This life-changing initiative will create over 2,000 jobs, cut our import bill by more than KSh60 billion each year, and reinforce Kenya’s place at the forefront of green growth and climate-smart innovation on the continent,” Ruto added.

On infrastructural development, the President has noted that the government will continue to expand our road network to enhance connectivity and open up economic opportunities across the country.

Kakamega development tour

Ruto was speaking at Shiveye in Ikolomani Constituency, Kakamega County, on Saturday, November 1, 2025, where he launched the construction of the 33km Shamakokho-Kaimosi-Mpaka-Mululu-Museno-Malinya road connecting Vihiga and Kakamega counties. According to Ruto, the Ksh1.5 billion project will enhance regional connectivity, boost trade, and improve access to markets.

Meanwhile, on his Western region development tour at the weekend, the Head of State revealed that his administration is investing more than Ksh21 billion in transformative projects in Kakamega County.

He said these include Ksh14 billion for affordable housing units, Ksh2.5 billion for modern fresh produce markets, and Ksh2 billion for student hostels in institutions of higher learning. He added that the government is also establishing a gold refinery in Ikolomani for Ksh1.5 billion to ensure that the local community benefits directly from natural resources in the county.

”We have commissioned 230km of new roads across the county and allocated Ksh2.6 billion to connect 34,000 homesteads to electricity, advancing our agenda of universal access to power. We are upgrading Kakamega Airport by extending the runway from 900 metres to 1.2 kilometres, and widening it to accommodate larger aircraft, a key step towards positioning Kakamega as a regional economic hub.” Ruto said.

Further, he said the state will complete Bukhungu Stadium at Ksh1.4 billion, and the Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital at Ksh1 billion, both of which will serve as flagship facilities in sports and healthcare.
