Power blackout expected in parts of 3 counties on Monday, October 13

Kenya Power has announced planned power outages affecting sections of Nyeri, Embu, and Kiambu counties on Monday, October 13, 2025.

The outages form part of routine maintenance aimed at upgrading infrastructure and enhancing the reliability of the electricity grid.

The announcement, posted on X on October 12, 2025, provides detailed timelines and locations to help residents and businesses prepare for the temporary disruption.

Areas affected in Nyeri and Embu

In Nyeri County, power interruptions will impact King’ong’o near Kimathi University and surrounding locations. The outages are scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Affected sites include Gamerock, Kingongo, Mt. Kenya Bottlers, Chania MOW, Garden Estate, King’ong’o Prisons, Highlands, KIE, Hill Farm, Hill Court, Kahawa Ridge, Dedan Kimathi University, Sunrise Hostels, Bomas, Kabiru-Ini, Showground & Police Post, Major Seminary, Eunice Academy, Embassy Shopping Centre, Thathua, and Golden Gates Hotel, as well as adjacent customers.

In Embu County, residents in the Ishiara and Karurumo areas will experience outages from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. “Locations affected include Ishiara, Karurumo, Kanyombora, Kagaga, Iriri, Karerema, Kabubu Kanyama, Kamumu, Kadde, Gatatha, Kavegero, Mugwanjogu, Kasafari, Karagare, Intex Crasher, Murari, and other nearby areas.”

Kiambu County to experience power cuts

Kiambu County will also face planned outages in the Mataara and Gacharage Market areas from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Affected locations include Mataara Tea Factory, Ngethu Water Works, Upper Camp, Gathugu Village, Gachege Tea Factory, Gituamba Market, Gatunguru Boys, Mataara Dispensary, Miuugu Village, Kiriko Mission and Kariminu Water.

Kanyoni Market, Ndiko Market, Gakoe Market, Gicheha Farm, Thuraku Village, Karatu Market, Wanuugu Village, Kirangi Village, Ituramiro Market, Gacharage Water, Gairi Market, Ndairegu Water, Gaiteete Market, Kaguyi Village, Karinga Girls, Igamba Market, and adjacent customers.

Kenya Power stated that the planned outages are necessary for maintenance and infrastructure improvements. Residents and businesses in the affected areas are advised to make preparations to mitigate disruptions during the scheduled times.
