Kenya Railways reveals new fares for restored Gilgil–Nyahururu Safari train service

The Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) has unveiled the full fare structure for the Nyahururu Safari Train, outlining what passengers will pay across both economy and first class on the revived route.

The service covers more than 20 stations, stretching from Nairobi to Nyahururu, offering commuters and travellers an expanded rail alternative across the busy corridor.

In economy class, the lowest fare is on the Ol Kalou–Nyahururu section at just Ksh50, making it one of the most affordable rail trips in the country.

For short-distance travel, passengers moving from Nairobi to nearby stations such as Line Saba, Kibera, Satellite, and Lenana will pay Ksh80 in economy class, ensuring the service remains accessible to daily commuters.

Those travelling from Nairobi to mid-route stations like Kikuyu, Dagoretti, Muguga, and Limuru cost Ksh80 in economy, while Uplands, Matathia, and Kojabe are priced at Ksh150.

Longer economy trips from Nairobi to stations such as Longonot, Suswa, Munyu, Naivasha, Morendat, and Ilkek are priced at Ksh300.

On the other hand, the furthest economy destinations from Nairobi attract the steepest fares, with Gilgil costing Ksh450, Ol Kalou Ksh550, and Nyahururu, the terminal station, priced at Ksh600.

From Line Saba, fares range from Ksh80 to nearby Nairobi suburbs, Ksh150 to mid-corridor towns like Limuru and Uplands, Ksh300 to Rift Valley stops including Naivasha and Suswa, and up to Ksh600 to Nyahururu, with lower connecting fares such as Ksh450 to Gilgil, Ksh550 to Ol Kalou, and Ksh600 to Nyahururu; inter-stop fares further along the route drop to as low as Ksh50 between Ol Kalou and Nyahururu.
