By , June 3, 2026

The government has confirmed that the NYOTA youth empowerment programme will resume its second tranche of business support disbursement on June 30, 2026, even as it highlights strong progress already achieved under the initiative across the country.

In a statement shared on her X account on Tuesday, June 02, 2026, Principal Secretary in the State Department for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Susan Mang’eni said the programme continues to record significant milestones, with thousands of young entrepreneurs already running active businesses.

98% of beneficiaries already in business

Mang’eni linked the latest update to earlier progress reports showing that the programme has largely achieved its goal of moving youth into active enterprise.

“98 per cent of beneficiaries have already started their businesses,” she said in a previous statement released in March 2026.

She noted that the rollout followed a nationwide mentorship programme covering all 1,450 wards, where beneficiaries were supported through business training, site visits, peer learning and networking sessions.

According to the data, 94 per cent of those who received the first tranche had already undergone mentorship, while only a small fraction remained pending at the time of the report.

122,147 youth benefiting from NYOTA rollout

In her latest update, Mang’eni revealed that 122,147 youth drawn from all wards in the country are currently benefiting from the programme.

She said the beneficiaries were selected through the Entrepreneurial Aptitude Test (EAT) and have undergone structured training, mentorship and business development support.

“Most of them have already accessed the first business start-up grant of Ksh25,000, with Ksh3,000 retained as savings under the NSSF Haba Haba Scheme,” she stated.

Treasury intervention clears path for second tranche

Mang’eni also acknowledged the role of the National Treasury in unlocking budgetary constraints that had affected implementation timelines.

“We are grateful to the National Treasury for actively working to resolve fiscal space constraints and accommodate budgetary adjustments,” she said.

She confirmed that the second tranche will now be disbursed as a single nationwide payment.

“The disbursement for the second tranche will happen on 30th June 2026, and all beneficiaries will receive their grants at the same time,” she added.

This marks a shift from the first phase, which was rolled out in clusters across different regions.

Government urges patience as final phase nears

Mang’eni said the government is finalising administrative processes ahead of the disbursement and urged beneficiaries to remain patient and alert to official communication.

She also cautioned against misinformation, insisting that updates should only be obtained through verified channels.

The NYOTA programme, which integrates training, mentorship and funding, now moves into its next phase as thousands of youth prepare for the second tranche of startup capital.
