AVIATION:  Kenya Airways has resumed flights to Tanzania following the lifting of the suspension of all Kenyan aviation operators by the Tanzanian Government.

The national carrier said it will operate two daily flights to Julius Nyerere International Airport, Dar es Salaam and three weekly flights to Zanzibar, while flights to Kilimanjaro Airport and New York will resume in October.

“We are pleased to resume our services to Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar following this announcement by the Tanzanian government,” it said in a statement.

Allan Kilavuka, Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the airline said Tanzania  is critical to both Kenya and East Africa’s economic growth and the airline looks forward to continued collaboration.

Second flight

The second flight to Dar will leave tomorrow. Thereafter KQ, as Kenya Airways is popularly known, will operate two daily flights to Dar es Salaam. 

Kenya Airways officially resumed domestic flights on July 15 and international flights on August 1 after four months of suspended operations.

In a related development, Safarilink Aviation said it will not resume flights to Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro Airport soon, owing to the low international tourist arrivals in the country.

The airline’s chief executive Alex Avedi said they were observing arrival numbers, and would reconsider the route at the end of the year.

“Our market is international. We are not seeing strong numbers (tourists) from the UK, US and Australia.

Furthermore,Europe is going through a second wave of Covid-19 pandemic,” he added.
