Britam spends Sh4m on UoN’s building

INVEST: Britam Foundation has spent Sh4 million to renovate the University of Nairobi Department of Surgery building.

Britam Holdings Plc Group managing director Benson Wairegi said the refurbishment has installed state-of-the art audiovisual equipment that will enable lecturers to be delivered remotely while enhancing the learning environment of the students.

Wairegi said the spacious, modernised interiors and furniture will also help the department better accommodate the students in view of the Covid-19 protocols.

Speaking during the official launch of the facility, Britam Holdings Plc Group Managing director, Benson Wairegi said the company is committed to supporting the education sector in Kenya.

“We believe that education is one of the fundamental factors of development.

No country can achieve sustainable economic development without substantial investment in human capital.

While congratulating the Vice-Chancellor and the entire University of Nairobi fraternity for attaining 50 years since becoming a fully-fledged university, Wairegi said education raises people’s productivity and creativity and promotes entrepreneurship and technological advances.

In addition, he said, it plays a crucial role in securing economic and social progress and improving income distribution.

The Department of Surgery is the leading surgical teaching institute in East and Central Africa, providing quality training, innovative research and policy development for the production of world-class surgeons and surgical health care providers.
