Alai pressures Sakaja to pull down billboards in Kileleshwa

By , November 12, 2025

Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Aalai has intensified his campaign against the illegal erection of billboards in his area of jurisdiction and other nearby residential estates.

In his latest campaign against the trend, the vocal legislator has been accusing rogue officers from the police, the County Government of Nairobi City and advertising companies of colluding to erect commercial billboards in the said zones without county approval.

Intensified campaign

On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, Alai revealed that he held talks with the Nairobi County officials over the same, insisting that the ‘thuggery has to end’.

”I have told the team from Johnson Sakaja’s administration, led by Planning Chief Officer Patrick Analo and Assistant Director Dan Nasengo, to remove all billboards from Kileleshwa. The thuggery has to end. Billboard owners like Magnate, Sharks, ADsite, Live AD and Look Media have to operate within the law or find elsewhere to cause chaos,” Robert Aalai took to X.

Alai has publicly been denouncing the proliferation of large, unauthorised billboards that have transformed Kileleshwa’s face. Roads such as Waiyaki Way, Olenguruone Road, Oloitokitok Road, Mandera Road, and James Gichuru Road have been identified as hotspots for the illegal installations.

According to the MCA, the said billboards violate county planning laws governing spacing, height, and setback regulations. He notes that Kileleshwa’s designation as an Area of Partial Control under Nairobi’s planning policy should offer it tighter protection from such developments.

He has accused the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers of colluding with top government officials to erect the contested billboards.

‘Rogue officers’

”Hello, DCI Kenya boss Amin, our residential areas are not a gun firing range. I wonder why you have allowed your officers to be used by corrupt advertising companies to erect billboards along James Gichuru, Oloitoktok, Olenguruone, and Waiyaki roads without the county’s approval. Rogue officers, using official DCI cars and backed by OCS Muthangari and Kileleshwa, are erecting billboards at night without regard for due process,” Alai took to X  on Saturday, November 1, 2025.

Meanwhile, Aali has emerged as a sharp critic of Governor Sakaja’s administration, pointing an accusing finger at the county chief for mismanaging the capital city.
