The body of a man, who jumped into the sea from a moving ferry at the Likoni crossing channel, is still missing two days after the incident.

Kenya Ferry Service (KFS) said that operation to retrieve the body of the unidentified middle-aged man is ongoing.

Managing Director Bakari Gowa said that divers drawn had been deployed since Sunday to aid in retrieval exercise.

He said several boats had been dispatched to comb the Indian Ocean as the body was expected to float after being pushed offshore.

“Retrieval exercise is ongoing, however, the body is expected to float within two days after drowning and what remains is for the body to be spotted,” he said.

The ferry boss noted that initial investigations had indicated that the man could have been drunk or had ill mental health.

“Analysis from CCTV footage indicate that the man was drunk and he threw himself into the Indian ocean by running through the back end of Mv Harambee,” he said.

According to an eye witnesses, the man seemed to be mentally ill since he seemed to be talking to himself before he sat at the hind prow and minutes later he dived and plunged into the Indian Ocean.

Gowa said divers were unable to save the man on Sunday due to the darkness and strong undercurrent waves.

The matter was reported at ferry police station.
