Badilisha takes aim at former governors for sabotaging him

Nyandarua governor Moses Kiarie Badilisha (below) has accused his predecessors of undermining his administration by criticizing policies intended to uplift the county’s economy.

He said his predecessors, whom he did not name, have been claiming all initiatives by his government are ‘corruption based’.

“When I gave out pyrethrum seeds and Napier grass stalks they claimed it is corruption and they are claiming the apple growing project is also corruption.

“They should give me time to govern because they had their time and we know they used to misappropriate funds meant to help our people,” the governor said.

He said negative politics had hindered the development of the county since inception of devolution.

He was speaking when he handed over equipment and tools to various youth groups drawn from across the county.

The gathering held at the Catholic Church grounds in Ol Kalou town on Wednesday was also attended by several MCAs led by deputy Speaker Chege Gathirimu.

The governor urged the assembly to hasten passing of the Youth Policy document that has been lying there.

He said the policy will hasten creation of structures meant to implementate youth related projects.

 The deputy speaker promised that “the document will be dealt with expeditiously”.

The Governor challenged the youths to be presenting their views during the County budget making cycle because that where money for their empowerment is allocated.

The governor directed the department of youth to train the young people on tendering process so that they can be taking up tenders set aside for them. He said lack of the tendering requirements know how was locking out the youth from doing business with the County.

Promised to give resource support to a youth group that has shown interest in starting to grow apples in the County.

The Governor said music industry can become a major revenue earner for the County if exploited. He promised to give support to 22 year old Martin Kiragu who plays a guitar using one hand after losing his lower right arm to a shuffcutter accident.

The boy’s father Francis Gachagua said his son was involved in the accident when cutting fodder for their livestock. The boy is a self taught guitarist, according to the father.
