Embakasi East constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has asked Kenyans to rally behind him and his Kiharu counterpart Ndindi Nyoro.

Taking to his official X account on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, the lawmaker argued that the future of the country lies in them.

According to Owino, Kenyans should start following him and Nyoro, since big things will be coming up.

The controversial MP did not, however, reveal whether the duo will be vying for the presidency in the near future.

“Don’t be cheated, this is where the future is. All Kenyans are advised to follow the duo. We will be there no matter what. Big things coming up,” Babu Owino stated.

Babu Owino’s 2027 ambition

Babu Owino has since declared his interest for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2027 but has been holding the ambitions of becoming a president one day.

Ndindi Nyoro on the other hand dominated the news headlines in early 2024, when he was touted as President William Ruto’s running mate in the next 2027 general elections.

He was also touted as Mt Kenya region’s next political Kingpin, a move that saw former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua kick off campaigns to secure the region, a decision that contributed to his impeachment.

Gachagua traversed Mt Kenya region to stamp his authority as the Kingpin, a move that saw him get labeled as tribal as he kept on warning his political rivals not to touch the mountain through his famous “usiguze mlima” phrase.

Ndindi Nyoro chose to remain neutral on Gachagua’s impeachment debate and has since remained mum on his political future, but does Babu Owino’s latest statement give any hint?

2027 presidential candidates

Well, several leaders, among them youths, have since declared their interests in the country’s top most political seat.

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya recently stated that he would be going for the presidency once he is done with his work in the county.

Others who have drawn attention on social media after showing interest in unseating President William Ruto are Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah and former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i.

Wiper Democratic Movement Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) party leader Eugene Wamalwa, Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua, and political activist-cum-government accountability advocate Morara Kebaso have also declared their interests in the 2027 presidency.

Poghisio on best president

Former Senate Majority Leader Samuel Poghisio has, however, suggested that the best president Kenya will ever produce will come from a small community.

Speaking on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, during a televised interview with K24 TV, the former West Pokot senator argued that people from minority communities are more appreciative, and that they don’t have entitlement.

Poghisio further stated that those from small communities also have no capacity to be corrupt.

“The best president Kenyan never had will be from a small community. If Kenya was given a president from smaller communities, the economy will be more stable, there is no way they can run the country down. They are more appreciative, they don’t have entitlement. I’m just advising people, if you ever decide to select a president who will stabilize this country, go to the small communities. Get a Pokot, Turkana, Somali, from coast etc. Those guys have no capacity even to be corrupt,” Poghisio stated.
