A political clash is looming after Jubilee Party, an affiliate of the Azimio La Umoja coalition, declared it would field candidates in most constituencies in Mombasa county in the August 9 General Election.

Although the party has pledged solidarity with the Azimio coalition, its Mombasa leadership led by secretary Nelson Akwaka said they are targeting to garner seats in all wards, constituencies, senate and woman representative posts.

This is likely to put them on a coalition course with ODM, which has great influence and dominance in the county. “Our aim is to keep the agenda of President Uhuru Kenyatta and of Jubilee alive. We will strive to ensure the people are united behind our presidential candidate, Raila Odinga,” said Akwaka.

Mombasa county Jubilee senatorial candidate, and former Mombasa Deputy Governor, Hezel Katana, said Jubilee is in talks with affiliates like ODM to see how Azimio will sweep the county.

“We don’t have a Jubilee governor candidate in Mombasa, but we shall  back our MCAs, MPs and senator candidates,” said Katana. Woman Rep aspirant Amina Abdalla, who has declared support for Suleiman Shahbal for Mombasa governor, said the county would be an  Azimio la Umoja zone.
