Video clip of chaos at Bomas played before judges

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) yesterday played a four-second video clip in court showing chaos at Bomas before presidential election results were announced.

While dismantling the evidence of Azimio and six other petitioners, IEBC further tabled in data analysis discrediting Raila’s case that there was the infiltration of the servers and the portal.

IEBC lawyer Abdikadir Mohamed said it was impossible to announce the results of the remaining 27 constituencies following the chaos.

“The four-second clip shows you the environment and the fracas at the announcement podium at the time when Commissioner Guliye was to go to that podium to announce the 27 constituencies. It was impractically impossible to announce the results of the 27 constituencies following the chaos that erupted,” said Abdikadir.

He was responding to affidavits filed in court by the Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua in which they accused IEBC and Chebukati of failing to tally 27 constituencies.

IEBC, however, told the court that the constituencies were tallied and verified and what was remaining was the announcement which was to happen were it not for chaos.

“That was the environment and at that time it was practically not possible for Commissioner Guliye to announce. The lack of announcement, however, does not go to the level where you would consider the 27 constituencies untallied,” argued Abdikadir.
