UDA blocked from using Nyayo Stadium for last rally

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has been denied to use Nyayo Stadium ok August 6 for their last campaign rally ahead of the August 9 General election.

In a letter seen by People Daily Digital, Sports Kenya said Nyayo and Kasarani stadia will be used for peace prayers that will kick off from August 5 to August 7.

"We regret to inform you that due to peace concert scheduled to take place at both Moi International Sports Center- Kasarani and Nyayo National Stadium between August 5 to 7 2022.

"The facility will not be available for their rally," the letter read in part.

The letter was copied to the Cabinet Secretary  Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage, the Principal Secretary State Department for Sports and Development and to the Chairman Sports Kenya Board Charles Waithaka.

The new development will likely put to a stop a clash between Kenya Kwanza and Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalitions that had claimed booking of Nyayo Stadium for their last rallies on August 6.

"As the country approaches the general election in 20 days, the Azimio team wishes to thank all Kenyans of goodwill who have turned up in their millions all over the country at meetings, rallies and in person to join in this historic journey to a fair, just, prosperous and inclusive nation.

“The Azimio campaign team, led by #babanamartha will hold its last official campaign meeting in Nairobi on 6th August 2022 at Nyayo stadium,” Azimio's Secretary General Junet Mohammed said in a statement on Tuesday, July 19.
