Voting materials dispatched to all 761 polling stations – Trans Nzoia Returning Officer confirms
Trans Nzoia County Returning Officer John Cox Lorionkou has said all is set for general elections set for Tuesday 9 August 2022.
Speaking to the media at Kitale, Lorionkou said all the voting materials have been dispatched to 761 polling stations.
“We are well prepared to conduct tomorrow’s elections. All the materials needed for the crucial exercise have been distributed to all the polling stations in the five constituencies in this county” Lorionkou said.
The county election boss said they have received security officers who will take care of the polling materials and the voting exercise.
“Every polling station will have two police officers to provide security services in all our 761 polling stations” he added.
He called on the 398,931 registered voters to be very cautious when marking their ballot papers so that their votes are not rejected.
“The law this time is very strict that one voter will receive a single ballot paper for every elective seat and therefore if you make a mistake, you will have wasted your vote because you will not be given another ballot paper” he appealed.
He also revealed that a ballot paper that does not have Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC stamp will be rejected and urged voters to ensure that their ballot papers are stamped before they cast them.
“One of the clerks will be there to stamp ballot papers. If your ballot paper is not stamped, then your vote will be rejected during the tallying process. Please ensure your ballot paper has been stamped” he added.
He further asked the voters to go home after voting and not listen to politicians who have been asking them to guard their votes in the polling and tallying centres.
“People of Trans Nzoia, wake up early in the morning and vote for your preferred leaders. After that, go home, we will guard your votes because that is our sole mandate, no one else can do it better than us” he said.
