Section of Azimio Senators vote for Kenya Kwanza’s Kingi as Senate Speaker

A section of Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Senators voted for the Kenya Kwanza-fronted Amason Kingi to be the Speaker of the Senate.

Among them are Johnes Mwashushe Mwaruma (Taita Taveta),  Joseph Githuku (Lamu), Mohamed Faki (Mombasa), Stewart Madzayo (Kilifi), Issa Boy (Kwale), Abdulkadir Haji (Garissa), Dullo Fatuma Adan (Isiolo), Okiyah Omtatah (Busia), James Ekomwa and Margaret Kamar (nominated).

Kingi wins

Kingi was elected on Thursday after he garnered 46 out of the 67 votes, having an absolute majority.

The former Kilifi governor won easily after Kalonzo Musyoka withdrew from the race shortly before the voting began.

Kingi will now take over from Kenneth Lusaka who was elected as Bungoma governor in the August 9 poll.s

Kingi becomes the third Senate speaker after Ekwe Ethuro and Lusaka.
