Ottichillo floors Akaranga to retain Vihiga governor seat
By KNA, August 12, 2022Vihiga Governor Dr Wilber Ottichilo has retained his seat after garnering 76,041 votes beating his predecessor Moses Akaranga and three other contestants.
Dr Ottichilo, vying on the Orange Democratic Movement ticket, beat his closest challenger, Moses Akaranga of Progressive Party of Kenya who obtained 37,049.
Results were released by the County Returning Officer Peter Tiyo at the Chavakali High School Multi-Purpose Hall, the county tallying centre.
Ottichilo banked on his impressive development record, which gave him an edge over his opponents.
Vihiga is the home county to Kenya Kwanza coalition co-principal and Amani National Congress party leader Musalia Mudavadi, whose candidate, Alfred Agoi, came a distant fourth with 21, 071 votes after George Khaniri of United Democratic Party who had 26, 918 votes.
Agoi is the former Sabatia MP and Mudavadi’s close confidant while Khaniri is the outgoing senator.
Francis Ominde, former County Secretary garnered 2,338 votes.
Meanwhile, Charles Gimose has retained the Hamisi constituency seat on the ANC ticket after he got 22, 621 votes against his closest challenger, ODM’s Castro Lubanga, who managed 8,241.
Ernest Kagesi successfully defended his Vihiga National Assembly seat on ANC ticket with 13,890 votes, followed by Ken Omusedi of ODM with 10,551 while UDA’s Yusuf Chanzu came third. with 4,223 votes.
