The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), and the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), both affiliate parties of the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition party, are engaged in sibling rivalry in Trans Nzoia County.

The two parties are in supremacy battle on who should fly the coalition party’s flag in some specific elective seats in the county.

DAP-K is supporting Trans Nzoia County Assembly Speaker Joshua Werunga while ODM is supporting Musoke Muliro in the senatorial contest.

Speaking at a burial ceremony in Saboti, Moses Khaoya, a member of Raila Odinga’s Presidential Campaign Team, said the rivalry is likely to threaten the coalition’s strength in the cosmopolitan county.

“We, as ODM, shelved our gubernatorial ambition and agreed to support George Natembeya,” Khaoya said.

ODM is ‘greedy, selfish’

His sentiments were echoed by Esther Koli, who said ODM is ‘greedy and selfish’.

“You can’t be fair when you demand to be given Senatorial seat as well as Saboti MP seats.

“When baba came here, he held the hand of Musoke Muliro and Caleb Amisi as a way of endorsement,” Koli said.

In a quick rejoinder, Phanice Khatundi who is vying for Trans Nzoia Woman Representative seat said DAP-K cannot be intimated to support Musoke against Joshua Werunga.

“Our candidate is Speaker Joshua Werunga. Your cries will not deter us from looking for votes for him,” she said.

Earlier on, Amisi had cried foul saying DAP-K did not respect ODM and asked Azimio’s topmost leadership to intervene.
