Mwaure: I’ll allocate Sh50m to village councils for development
Agano party presidential candidate David Mwaure promised to allocate Sh50 million to every village council in the country saying it was the most important unit.
Mwaure, a lawyer and cleric said the people who know what the communities needed had been sidelined in the development planning.
“We have devolved money, unfortunately we have also devolved corruption but we have never devolved decision making. We want Kenyans to decide what development projects they want to be financed at the lowest level,” he said.
The candidate who has scripted, what he said, are 12 covenants in his manifesto, said his government’s focus will be on dealing with corruption, high cost of living, poor healthcare and unemployment.
“I will go after the big fish, it doesn’t matter who you are, if we have an Abacha we will go for that Abacha,” he said.
Millions of dollars said to have been stolen by former Nigerian President Sani Abacha were recently returned to the country following a deal with European nations where the money had been stashed during his reign.
Media coverage
In a session that was denied the expected fiery exchanges as has been in the previous debates after his rival George Wajackoyah of Roots Party skipped the event citing discrimination, Mwaure took it upon himself to explain what he would do different from the other candidates.
The two had been paired together by the Presidential Debates Committee following a poll that showed they had less than 5 percent support nationally. Wajackoyah disputed this categorization, demanding to be placed with the other more popular candidates Deputy President William Ruto and Azimio candidate Raila Odinga. The debate went on as scheduled and Mwaure faced questions on a range of issues including corruption, health, education and the economy. “We will give enough money to the health sector, at least 5 level 5 hospitals in every county,” he said.
Mwaure, who has been polled as the least popular among the four hopefuls, denied that had not been proactive in promoting his candidature saying he had not received adequate media coverage. Despite this, he said he was the fittest to lead taking on Ruto and Raila saying they had failed the nation during their tenures in government.
“We have a candidate who is the current DP for 10 years. The things he is saying he wants to do he could have done the last ten years. We also have a former Prime Minister who is promising things he could have done when he was in the position,” he said.
