Dr Moses Mwangi one of the six candidates eyeing the Murang’a gubernatorial seat has accused his opponents of ganging up against him to deny him victory in the August 9 polls.

Speaking in Gatanga constituency when he launched his campaign tour of the seven sub-counties, Mwangi claimed that his rivals are waging malicious propaganda against him by sponsoring opinion polls implying that he is not in the race.

The medical doctor who is contesting the seat for the third time since 2013 dismissed the polls as “cooked” and assured his supporters that he is firmly in the race.

The latest opinion polls by various pollsters give points to five of the candidates with no mention of Mwangi as a participant in the race.

Mwangi also reached out to supporters of outgoing Governor Mwangi Wairia to vote for him saying that he had a head start in the contest.

Accompanied by his running mate Peter Njiiri and Safina woman rep candidate Leah Muchai, Mwangi stated that he stands a better chance of capturing the seat than five other heavyweights.

Mwangi will face off with former Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau (Jubilee), Senator Irungu Kang’ata (UDA), Joseph Wairagu (Democratic Party), Irungu Nyakera (Independent) and Joseph Mbai (Usawa Party).

While exuding confidence that he will win the election, Mwangi said that he came second with over 160,000 votes during the 2017 elections which he was contesting on a Saba Saba party ticket.

“I am appealing to those who voted for my opponent at that time to come to our side since he is no longer in the race. I am committed to returning Murang’a back to its glory and prosperity,” said the candidate.

He highlighted some of his priorities as healthcare, agriculture, education and empowerment of the youth.

Mwangi, Njiiri and Ms Muchai asked residents not to vote on party affiliations but choose a candidate who will bring change and progress to the county.
