Munyes throws in towel as ODM candidate leads race
By KNA, August 11, 2022Former Petroleum Cabinet Secretary John Munyes has conceded defeat in the race to succeed Josephat Nanok as Turkana governor.
Munyes threw in the towel yesterday with a few polling stations yet to present their results. Jeremiah Lomurukai of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) was leading.
“I wish to tell the world that I have conceded defeat and congratulate the winner of the gubernatorial seat of Turkana,” Munyes said.
He blamed voter bribery for his loss and also accused his colleagues in the Azimio-One Kenya coalition of sabotage.
The former Cabinet Secretary was running on the ruling Jubilee Party ticket, which is an affiliate of the Azimio coalition.
Munyes called on the newly elected leadership to prioritise poverty alleviation, water provision and the development of the education sector.
Nanok is leaving office after serving two terms.
