Kiraitu Murungi set to launch ‘intensive’ campaign in bid to retain his Meru seat

Meru governor Kiraitu Murungi has vowed to launch an “intensive” campaign to ensure he wins against his rivals after getting cleared by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Sunday, June 5.

Kiraitu, who expressed confidence that he will retain the gubernatorial seat, called on his rivals Senator Mithika Linturi (UDA) and Meru Woman Representatives Kawira Mwangaza, who is contesting on an independent ticket, to prepare for an early defeat on August 9.

“It does it matter whether they are maliciously questioning my running mate’s credibility in court or not because the law is very clear.

“Now that I have been cleared by IEBC I’m telling them to wait for a titanic campaign because I have already put everything I have in place to ensure I win this seat for a second term,” Kiraitu said.

Murungi defends his track record

The county chief said his win will be determined by his remarkable track records his government has achieved on transformation geared toward making Meru great.

“The horse is one in this race and that is me. I can bet I will win, so forget about the noise being made by my competitor. People are not foolish, they are looking at the track records and credibility of every individual,” Kiraitu added.

His deputy-designate Titus Ntochiu dismissed his critics as busy bodies who do not understand the law.

“I am telling the people of Meru that the constitution is very clear on mandates of deputy governor so those moving to court claiming that I did not resign as the finance CEC have not read the law clearly and understood it and those are kicks of a dying horse,” Ntochiu said.
