The ruling Jubilee party has submitted the names of Nairobi Governor Anne Kananu and former city Woman Representative Rachael Shebesh for nomination to the Senate.

In the nomination list gazetted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Wednesday, July 27, the ruling party also nominated President Uhuru Kenyatta’s sister, Kristina Wambui Kenyatta, popularly known as Kristina Pratt, to the Senate.

Other prominent women nominated to the senate are Uasin Gishu Senator Margaret Kamar and Lina Chebii Kilimo, the chairperson of Anti-Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Board.

The party has also submitted the name of Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege for nomination to the National Assembly.

Chege opted not to defend her seat in the August 9 polls to concentrate on national politics. She is an ardent supporter of Azimio One Kenya coalition Raila Odinga, who has the backing of Uhuru’s Jubilee party.

ODM nominees

The ODM party also rewarded loyalists with nominations. The Raila Odinga-led outfit picked party chairman John Mbadi, chairperson of the National Elections Board (NEB) Catherine Mumma and Homa Bay County Energy and Mining (CEC) for nomination to the National Assembly.

The party lists submitted to the Registrar of Political Parties and IEBC recently also feature aspirants who lost in nominations and those who were compelled to step down for stronger candidates in their respective coalitions.
