Preparations to swear in the governor-elect for Murang’a county Irungu Kang’ata are in top gear with the ceremony set to take place on Thursday, August 25, 2022.

The ceremony will be held at Ihura stadium with the committee promising smooth assumption of the office.

The members of the committee include the County secretary, County commissioner, County police commander, legal advisor, National Intelligence Services (NIS) officer, Chief Officer Finance, two representatives of the governor-elect, a representative from the ministry of devolution, Clerk to the County Assembly, a representative from the Judiciary and Chief Officer of public service board.

County secretary Patrick Mukuria who is chairing the committee said they want to ensure a seamless transition as Mwangi was Iria exits for the incoming administration.

“We have held several meetings in preparation for the swearing-in ceremony for the governor and his deputy and we want to ensure there will be no hitches,” he said.

“We will have a judge to administer the oath of office to the two as required by the law,” he added.

He also said the committee is working to reconcile all the details about the county which include the assets and liabilities and a register of the personnel.

“We are having a new governor taking over the office and thus he requires to be furnished with all the details regarding the county,” Mukuria noted.

Kang’ata was declared the winner for the gubernatorial seat after he floored six other opponents who were eyeing the seat in the recently concluded general election.

The governor-elect who was vying on a UDA party ticket garnered 256,561 votes against his closest competitor Jamleck Kamau of the Jubilee party who got 91,164 votes.

Kang’ata with his Deputy Stephen Mburu Munania has promised to transform the county by bringing new leadership and streamlining the structures in the county government to enhance service delivery.

“I have an agenda for the people of Murang’a which is outlined in my manifesto and I will be keen to implement it to the letter,” he said.

The key priority he said is health, agriculture, education and infrastructure.

Kang’ata becomes the second governor for Murang’a county taking over the leadership from Mwangi Wa Iria who has served for two terms in office.
