IEBC warns candidates against campaigning outside gazetted period

By , August 6, 2022

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has implored candidates of various elective seats to desist from any political campaigns outside the window it had gazetted.

Saturday, August 6, 2022, marked the end of the campaign period and candidates were expected to cease campaigning at 6:00 pm.

“Today 6th August 2022 at 6 pm marks the end of the campaign period. Candidates and any political parties should desist from engaging in any acts of political campaigns outside this period as this would amount to a breach of the Electoral Code of Conduct,” a statement by the electoral body read in part.

Scores of political candidates held their penultimate campaigns with a clarion call on their supporters to turn up and vote come Tuesday next week.

Azimio’s presidential candidate Raila Odinga held a rally in Kasarani Stadium as his Kenya Kwanza counterpart William Ruto drummed up support for his candidacy in Nyayo Stadium.

Roots Party flagbearer George Wajackoyah and his Agano counterpart David Mwaure also pitched tents in Nairobi county.

Gubernatorial, senatorial, Parliamentary, Ward representatives and Woman Representative candidates also held major rallies across the country.
