Former Thika Town MP Alice Wambui Ng’ang’a has silenced controversial Bishop David Kariuki Ngari alias Gakuyo to recapture the seat she lost in 2017.

Wambui, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate, garnered 59, 575 votes against Gakuyo’s 24, 637 votes in the results announced by the constituency Returning Officer Michael Mwose.

Ann Mwikali came a distant third after she got 2, 123 votes while Juma Hemedi, an independent candidate only managed 1, 495 in the race that had 11 candidates.

Gakuyo vied using Jubilee ticket

Gakuyo, the ruling Jubilee Party candidate, had staged a fierce fight for the position against Wambui who had been trounced by Patrick Wainaina in 2017.

While accepting her victory at Thika High School, the sub-county main tallying centre, Wambui said while the journey has been tedious, Thika voters’ resolve to have her back was enough evidence that they have been desiring better leadership.

She stated that she would prioritise the completion of the projects left incomplete by Wainaina besides continuing with her transformational education agenda.

Following the scrapping of CDF kitty by the court, Wambui said Kenyans will demand its restoration after a new parliament.

“Even without us saying anything, I’m sure Kenyans will demand to have the kitty back as it touches on them directly unlike any other government fund,” she said.

She vowed to work with her challengers in the race to better the vast constituency.
