Motosiet Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) candidate, Jackline Kurgat, has called for protection from security apparatus in Trans Nzoia County.

Speaking to the media at Cherangany, Kurgat said some of her male opponents have planted goons to heckle and even attack her in her perceived strongholds.

“I am not safe campaigning in some areas especially Sinoko, my male opponent has been threatening me using intoxicated goons,” Kurgat said.

Other female candidates

Kurgat, a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate, said other female candidates should be protected during the campaign period so that they are not disadvantaged.

“On behalf of other female candidates in Trans Nzoia, I want to ask the security agencies to guarantee us security so that we can campaign freely,” she appealed.

She urged youths to avoid manipulative politicians who use them for their own selfish interests.

“Do not allow self centered politicians who give you alcohol and other drugs to cause chaos in political rallies. If you are arrested, you will be all alone,” she said.

Kurgat also called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), to take disciplinary action against politicians who breach the elections code of conduct.

“We all signed the elections code of conduct. What our opponents are doing is a breach of the same, IEBC should act,” she appealed.
