Divisions have emerged among Luo elders in Rachuonyo region over endorsement of two Homa Bay county governor candidates for the August 9 election.

The elders from Rachuonyo area are split over the competition between ODM candidate Gladys Wanga and  former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero (Independent).

A group of the elders on Saturday endorsed Wanga who is seeking to succeed outgoing Governor Cyprian Awiti in next month’s election.

The elders, led by Apolo Bwana and James Mumbo, called for six-piece voting system.

“We have unanimously agreed to support the six-piece calls by ODM leadership. We will engage in door to door campaigns to achieve this objective,” Bwana said.

Their endorsement came three weeks after another group of elders endorsed Kidero.  Led by Jack Ong’iyo and Phares Ogada, they promised to support former Nairobi governor.
