There was drama at Kajiado East Constituency tally Centre in Isinya after two presiding officers were allegedly caught tampering with ballot boxes.

In the 2:00 am incident, the tallying centre hall at Moi Girls-Isinya turned into a shouting match between candidates of various factions halting the vote counting process for some time.

It is reported that the two presiding officers were found in a vehicle parked at the centre with an open ballot box for the Woman Rep position.

The candidates protesting and their supporters claimed that the move by the officers was an indication of an ongoing plot to rig the elections.

Security agencies deployed at the scene had a tough time containing the already rowdy crowd.

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Kajiado East Constituency returning officer Samuel Chacha and security apparatus were forced to address the unruly crowd to clarify the issue before the tallying of the votes continued.

Chacha noted that he was informed about the allegation and has since reported the matter to the police to take action because he cannot give direction on the matter since the two were caught outside the tallying centre.

Isinya Sub-County police commander Ancient Kaloki said the two have recorded statements with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the police have taken over the matter for further investigations.

The five disputed ballot boxes from one polling station within Sholinke/Oloorsikon ward and the vehicle used will remain under the custody of police
