CS Matiang’i assures Kenyans of security ahead of August polls

Interior Cabinet Secretary, Dr Fred Matiang’i has assured Kenyans the government is ready and prepared to offer security during political campaigns, the general elections and after.

Consequently, he has appealed to aspirants for various elective seats to embrace peaceful campaigns so that the country remains united after the elections slated for August 9th.

He appealed to political leaders not to divide Kenyans as the country heads to the poll, stressing that this is the time Kenyans need peace more than anything else.

“Let us not divide our people. We want our country to be peaceful. I hope there will be no problem” Matiang’i said after a church service at Kenyerere Seventh Day Adventist Church SDA) in Sameta Sub county, Kisii county.

The CS, who delivered President Uhuru Kenyatta’s good will message to the faithfuls, appealed to religious leaders to pray for political leaders and for the country to be united during the campaigns and after the elections.

Matiang’i was accompanied by Health Principal Secretary, Susan Mochache, chairman of Gusii professionals, Moses Nyakiongora, Kisii County Assembly Deputy Speaker, Davins Onuso Ward Representatives- John Ombati, Bomorenda , Vincent Moisabi, Riana, Geoffrey Ombati, Sameta Mokwerero, Bathseba Sanaya ( nominated) and Aspirants- Lucas Mogoa, Bobasi constituency, Ombuhi Mogire and Sonye Ondari ( Sameta Mokwerero).

The CS noted that security officers have been deployed across the country to beef up security, adding that they will support the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission ( IEBC) to conduct the exercise smoothly.

He said plans are underway for the Gusii professionals to construct an Adventist Women Retreat Centre where women will go periodically for prayers and counseling services.

Matiangi’s sentiments comes even as the Commission has directed Aspirants for the elective seats to present their papers starting tomorrow to be cleared before the hit the campaign trails officials. ENDS.
