Siaya County Transition Committee has set August 25, 2022, as James Orengo's swearing-in date.

He will be sworn in alongside his running-mate William Oduol at Siaya KMTC grounds.

The event will be presided over by a High Court judge and witnessed by members of the public, religious leaders, the business community, and county and national government officials.

Orengo was declared the winner of the Siaya gubernatorial race last weekend by the IEBC County Returning Officer, Cathrine Bulinda having garnered 220, 349 votes.

Orengo served as Siaya Senator for two terms before contesting for the governor position where he defeated his rival Nicholas Gumbo who garnered 147, 558 votes.

He will succeed Cornel Rasanga who has served his two terms.

Chief Justice Martha Koome on August 8 dispatched a list of judges to conduct swearing-in ceremonies in 47 counties.

"The Assumption of Office of Governor Act 2019 requires that upon election into the office of Governor and Deputy Governor, the Judiciary shall appoint judges to oversee the swearing-in of the Governor-elect and Deputy Governor-elect in accordance with the Act.

"In that regard, I hereby appoint the judges as per the schedule attached herein to conduct the swearing-in ceremony upon election and gazettement by the IEBC," Koome said.

According to the Assumption of Office of Governor Act 2019, the county governor-elect should be sworn in on the first Thursday after the tenth day following the declaration of the final results of the election of the county governor by IEBC.

“The Governor-elect shall, during the swearing-in ceremony, take and subscribe to the oath or affirmation of office as prescribed in the First Schedule section of the Assumption of the Office of Governor Act 2019.

"The oath or affirmation shall take place not earlier than 10.00 am and not later than 2.00 pm,” the law states.
