Politicians vying for various elective seats in Homa Bay have appealed to security agencies  to eradicate rising cases of electoral violence in the county.

Homa Bay governor candidate Evans Kidero (Independent), Ndhiwa parliamentary hopeful Agostinho Neto (United Green Movement) and Homa Bay Woman representative candidate Mary Ojode (DAP-K) want the agencies to curb chaos  witnessed at campaign rallies.

They raised concern that the escalating cases of violence during campaigns is likely to cause huge damages in Homa Bay county.

The latest violence occurred in West Kamagak ward in Kasipul constituency last Monday, where at least four people were reported injured following an attacked.

Quick intervention

Among those injured during after violence erupted at a burial in the area included Kasipul parliamentary candidate Mohammed Swalleh.

Speaking during a joint political rally at Gaena market in Ndhiwa, Kidero said cases of violence are on the rise in Homa Bay.

Kidero cited violence which occurred at Pala, Wagwe, Nyakwere in Karachuonyo constituency. Similar violence had also been witnessed in Ndhiwa and Kasipul constituencies.

He called for quick interventions to curb the trend.

“Cases of violence in Homa Bay are alarming. We want the police and IEBC to move with speed and curb the situation,” he said.
