Baringo Senator Gideon Moi trounced by UDA candidate

Baringo County Senator Gideon Moi has lost his seat to Baringo North Member of Parliament (MP) William Cheptumo.

Cheptumo who has been serving as Baringo North MP for 15 years trounced the two term senator after he garnered 141,777 votes against his 71,480 votes.

He was declared winner by John Mwangi, the County Returning Officer moments after the tallying done at the Kenya School of Government Baringo Campus concluded.

Speaking after being declared winner, the elected senator expressed gratitude towards the county residents and stakeholders for supporting him throughout the race.

“Allow me to thank you people of Baringo for standing with me in the tight senatorial race, I must say it was really challenging but you chose me to represent you, thank you for trusting me, I do not take for granted I will do all I got to do to see our county in the frontline,”Cheptumo alluded.

He further pledged to unite the communities in the county adding that he will be a unifying factor for the growth of the county.

While pledging to work together with the residents to steer development, Cheptumo further vowed to beef up security in the county noting that it was time for the county people to enjoy peace and resources that God bestowed in the county.

The Senator-elect also applauded the Returning Officer and the IEBC officials for ensuring that the election process was free and transparent with no hitches.

Felix Chelaite who was vying under The Service Party (TSP) pocketed 3,261 votes while rejected votes were 1,506.
