Pokot South Member of Parliament (MP) David Pkosing of the Kenya Union Party (KUP) has retained his seat after garnering 28,225 against United Democratic Alliance (UDA’s) Simon Kalekem who had 15,298 votes.

Speaking at the Pokot south constituency tallying centre, Pkosing noted that despite his competitors playing tactical politics against him, he still managed to trounce their candidate who came second in the race.

“This was not an election between me and my fellow candidates in Pokot south. The saboteurs of Pokot nation had an ulterior motive for my people. The Pokot people have shown they are independent in decision-making,” he stated.

Pkosing additionally faulted President-elect William Ruto’s UDA team for campaigning against him. He reaffirmed that he has stamped West Pokot county as an Azimio zone.

He noted that the win for Kacheliba and Pokot south constituency has increased the numbers of Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition leaders in Parliament.

“The celebrations are a sign of our on freedom. We have ashamed the enemy and their projects,” he said.

On his part, Former West Pokot County Governor John Lonyangapuo who is also the KUP party leader said despite him failing to secure the gubernatorial position the three seats reserved by his party have brought the KUP party alive.

“Despite the Kenya kwanza brigade landing in West Pokot county day and night we have proved to them that we are independent and we can make our own decision,” he stated.

He urged Pkosing to put more effort and outshine his opponents in the developmental and political arena.

“We will continue standing with our party, in future a presidential candidate will come from the party. I will be in the villages visiting my people,” he said.
