The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a weather forecast for the next six days, from Tuesday, June 6, 2024, to June 10, 2024.
In a statement on Monday, June 3, 2024, the weatherman listed the areas that are set to receive rainfall during the said period.
A few areas in the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley will experience rainfall.
Towns in the Central Highlands include Thika, Muranga, Nyeri, Nyahururu, Nanyuki, Meru and Embu.
“Weather Outlook for 4 to 10 June 2024- Rainfall: A few areas in the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley will experience rainfall. The rest of the country is likely to remain generally dry,” the weatherman said in a statement.
Areas in Lake Victoria Basin include Kisumu, Kisii, Migori, Kericho, Homa Bay, Bomet and Kehancha.
The Nairobi Metropolitan area will this evening experience moderate to heavy rains over some parts of the region.
The rest of the country is, however, likely to remain generally dry.
Temperature forecast
In the weatherman’s forecast, high average daytime temperatures of more than 30°C will be felt in some parts of the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya.
Low average night-time temperatures (less than 10°C) are expected over parts of the Central Highlands and the Central Rift Valley.
Intermittent cold and cloudy conditions will occur over parts of the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, the South-eastern lowlands, and the Rift Valley.

Over the past one week, rainfall was recorded in the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, and the Lake Victoria Basin.
Past 7 days
According to the weatherman’s weather review for the past seven days, Kiambicho Forest Station in Murang’a County recorded the highest 24-hour rainfall: 61.5 mm on May 31, 2024.
Mandera recorded the highest daily max temperature: 37.4°C on June 2, 2024. Nyahururu recorded the lowest daily min temperature: 7.1°C on May 27, 2024.
Cold weather season
The weatherman has also announced the onset of the cold weather season in the Central Highlands and Nairobi area.
In the June, July to August weather forecast released on Tuesday, June 3, 2024, the Director of Meteorological Service David Gikungu said the counties of Laikipia, Meru, Embu, Kirinyaga, Nairobi, Kiambu, Murang’a, Tharaka Nithi and the South Eastern Lowlands of Machakos and Makueni areas are expected to experience cool and cloudy conditions.
In the forecast, the Weatherman noted that while it is the usual cold season, it will be slightly warmer than average for the season.
