Four persons died on the spot on Tuesday night after a Toyota Probox
was involved in a head on collision with a Kenya Bus Service (KBS) bus
at the notorious Reflector Stage in Kamulu, Nairobi County.

All the dead were passengers traveling in the Probox towards Joska
from Kamulu Shopping Centre, while the KBS bus was traveling in the
opposite direction.

According to Kayole District Traffic Officer (DTO) John Boino, four
adults died on the spot in the accident that occurred at around
7.40pm.

“The accident involved three vehicles, a Toyota Probox, KBS bus and a
canter. The Probox that was coming from Kamulu towards Joska was
overtaking the canter before it collided head on with the KBS bus that
was traveling in the opposite direction,” said Boino.

He added: “All the four occupants in the Probox died on the spot and
their bodies were moved to City Mortuary as the vehicles were towed to
Kamulu Police Station. Officers on the ground were able to identify
three, two male passengers and one female passenger. We are yet to
identify the fourth passenger who perished since his body was in a bad
shape.”

According to local eye witnesses, the canter driver failed to give way
before the overtaking Probox collided with the bus that was returning
to town without passengers. The buss driver is believed to have been
rushed to hospital in critical condition after being tossed out of the
vehicle on impact.

“This place between Drumvale and the reflector stage is a notorious
black spot as several accidents have occurred there. I have personally
written to Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) to put up road
synergies and bumps to reduce the number of fatal accidents on that
spot but in vain, I’m going to take up the issue with them again as a
matter of urgency,” Boino said.

A total of six fatal accidents have been reported on the same spot in
the last one year, a statistic that is worrying the area residents.

“We the residents of Kamulu are calling upon KeNHA to have the stretch
assessed by roads experts in order to advise on how to mitigate roads
accidents along this stretch and make it safer,” said Martin Ndaguatha
an eye witness.

Meanwhile, four people also died on Sunday morning a few kilometres
from the Kamulu spot, when a Peugeot Station Wagon and a trailer
crashed two motorcycles on the Eastern Bypass, just before the Ruai
turn-off junction.
