Anti-terror detectives have launched investigations to establish any terror links in the activities of the prime suspect in the brutal murders of a mother, her daughter, and her 12-year-old niece in Eastleigh, Nairobi County.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Hashim Dagane Muhumed (pictured) had travelled to Turkey from Nairobi for an unknown mission and during his stay there, he impersonated a Nairobi businessman and used his image to extort money from unsuspecting online users.

Dagane, who is also linked to another brutal murder of a woman whose badly mutilated body was found dumped at Langata cemetery, acquired a Kenyan identity card, despite apparent evidence that he was not a Kenyan.

 The multi-agency teams have also joined the probe into the Dagane’s past activities.

The probe seeks to establish if the suspect could have been a terror recruit operating in Nairobi, according to the Anti-terrorism Police Unit (ATPU).

Appearing before the National Assembly’s Administration and Internal Affairs Committee, Inspector-General of Police Douglas Kanja confirmed that Dagane arrived in Kenya from Ethiopia recently and fraudulently obtained Kenyan documentation.

He said a key red flag is that while Dagane claims to be a Kenyan, he does not speak Kiswahili, English, or any local dialect.
