The Nyahururu Anglican Diocese head, Bishop Major (Rtd) Samson Gachathi yesterday led a section of Nyandarua and Laikipia political leaders in calling for an end to the suffering caused by a change from NHIF to SHA.

The leaders said the suffering could only end if the top national leadership healed the country through the reconciliation of President William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua.

Bishop Gachathi, former Water cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki, Laikipia governor Joshua Irungu, Nyandarua’s former nominated MCA Joseph Waithera and Isaac Kung’u Wanjohi who is the ward MCA of Nyandarua said there is a need for President Ruto and Gachagua to bury their political differences and seek to end suffering of the people that is caused by plummeted economy and broken down health service caused by migration from NHIF to SHA.

“It is time for the two to agree that the nation is important than any individual and seek to heal the nation to end suffering of the people,” the Bishop said. The leaders were speaking during installation of new administrative system for the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) diocese that covers both Nyandarua and Laikipia counties.

The installation ceremony was held at the Christ the King Pro-Cathedral church in Nyahururu town. The Bishop has started reorganizing the church administration after being elected in April. Preaching, Dr Kamau from the diocese of Mt Kenya South said Kenyans were going through serious suffering which calls for the leaders to focus more on serving the people. Ex-CS Kariuki said she lost a neighbor who could not get treatment because of the interruption caused by change of medical cover from NHIF to SHA.

“There was no need to rush decisions on the health sector causing people to lose lives,” the former CS said.

Governor Irungu said he had instructed hospitals in Laikipia not to ask for payment from dialysis and surgery patients.

“I have directed the hospitals in Laikipia to offer services to people in need of dialysis and surgery without asking for NHIF, SHIF or SHA cards, after I witnessed so many people whose life depend on dialysis literally crying after missing their dialysis sessions,” the Governor said.

The Governor accused the country’s political leadership of instigating political impeachment sideshows instead of focusing on ending the suffering by those affected by the change in the health insurance system
