Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai has urged President William Ruto not to dismiss his Principal Secretaries (PSs).

The blogger-cum politician on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, told President Ruto to consider merging state departments and have them reduced.

Alai on Ruto conceding

According to Alai, the Head of State should not accept conceding further to the demands of what he termed as anarchists.

“Ruto shouldn’t dismiss PSs. He should merge the departments and reduce them but shouldn’t concede further to the anarchists,” Alai stated.

Alai went ahead to note that allowing the anti-government protesters to storm parliament during the June 25, 2024, deadly protests was the biggest mistake ever.

Confidence in Ruto government

This, Alai says, killed the confidence of the majority of Kenyans in the Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza administration.

“Allowing parliament to be breached was the biggest mistake. It killed the Kenya Kwanza confidence in the majority,” Alai stated.

Alai’s remarks come amid claims that President Ruto is planning to dismiss his Principal Secretaries, days after dissolving his Cabinet.

Ruto dissolving Cabinet

President Ruto shocked the country on Thursday, July 11, 2024, when he announced that he had fired all Cabinet Secretaries and Attorney General Justin Muturi.

It is only Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua that were spared the purge.

Ruto’s deputy Rigathi Gachagua, by virtue of the law, remained part of the cabinet since he can only leave the office through impeachment, resignation, incapacitation, or death.

Ruto said he was forced to fire the Cabinet Secretaries after reflection, listening keenly to what the people of Kenya have said, and after a holistic appraisal of the performance of the Cabinet and its achievements and challenges.

After his announcement, Ruto said he will now engage in extensive consultations across different sectors and political formations, to set up a broad-based government.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga last week joined Ruto in support of dialogue when the Head of State announced a multi-sectoral forum aimed at engaging the youth.

The forum was supposed to kick off on Monday, July 15, 2024, but the talks failed to kick off after Raila appeared to have backed off.
