Former Vihiga Governor Moses Akaranga has formerly declared his
interest in Football Kenya Federation (FKF) presidency during the
forth coming polls, promising to transform the sport locally by making
it more professional if elected.

Speaking to People Sport in Kakamega, Akaranga revealed that he is
being driven by the desire to bring more reforms in the football
fraternity that will in turn attract sponsorships for clubs and local
leagues.

”It beats logic to see teams representing the country like Gor Mahia
struggling to raise funds to honour matches abroad due to lack of
financial support and little is being done by the federation to end
this trend,” said Akaranga.

He added: “Am not entering this race as an ordinary person but rather
as a serious and major stakeholder having propelled Vihiga United to
great heights, just the same way I’m currently doing with Vihiga
Bullets who are currently taking part in National Super League.”

The former governor said, under his leadership, the federation will
ensure that the selection for national team players would be purely on
merit.

“We need to see players from all corners of the country given a
chance, because football is not only played in Nairobi. I will also
ensure that women football is well supported and well managed,” he
said.

“We are aware some few individuals who have sensed defeat are now
tampering with the electoral code to tailor it in their favour.

He warned the current office bearers not put strict conditions to lock
potential candidates away for their benefit.

Am setting up a team that will be an all-inclusive from all parts of the
country as we intend to do things in a different way,” Akaranga said.

During his tenure as Vihiga governor Akaranga supported both Vihiga
United and Vihiga Queens who all performed well in their respective
leagues.
