Kenya Beach Volleyball team reached the semi-finals of the African Games after a 2-1 (22-20, 19-22, 17-15) win over Nigeria on Sunday afternoon in Rabat, Morocco.

The duo of Naomi Too and Gaudencia Makokha have so far won their three matches in the Games that got underway on Friday.  They will now meet winner between Mozambique and Morocco in the semi-finals.

Too and Makokha having played together for long is reason coach Patrick  Owino is optimistic of good results.

It was the second time Kenya beat Nigeria with an identical 2-1 victory on Friday in a Pool B match. The other one was a 2-0 (21-14,  21-1) win over Benin.

Despite dropping a set yesterday, Owino is confident the duo will surpass the bronze medal won by the team of Margaret Indakala and Dorcas Ndasaba in Maputo, Mozambique in 2011.

“The girls are aware we missed the podium in 2015 in Congo, Brazzaville. They are working to win gold,” Owino.

Proper training at the beach in Mombasa prior to their departure is one of the reasons the coach is more assured of good results. Also winning  a bronze medal at the inaugural Africa Beach Games held in Sal, Cape Verde in June is yet another good indicator of the teams aspirations.
