What started as a tight and exciting encounter between AFC Leopards and Ulinzi FC ended in disarray after Ingwe fans stormed the Kinoru Stadium over poor results.
In a statement shared by Ulinzi Stars who carried the day in the Sunday afternoon November 3, 2024 encounter, the irate AFC Leopards fans stormed the pitch in the 95th minute.
By that time, Tomas Trucha’s side was trailing 2-0 in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) match.
Second-half goals from Yakeen Mutheli and Boniface Muchiri secured maximum points for the soldiers, who marched to the top half of the standings.
Yakeen, an attacking midfielder, was named man of the match in that entertaining match against AFC Leopards.
Fans frustrations
The agitated fans stormed the pitch to express their frustrations over the 2-0 defeat at the hands of Ulinzi. That was the second defeat in a week as they lost 1-0 to Murang’a Seals in their previous encounter and a 1-1 draw against Kariobangi Sharks.
In the video shared by Ulinzi FC, police were seen trying to calm down the supporters and asking them to leave the pitch.
Ingwe played the game without their assistant captain Victor Omune, centre back Kennedy Owino and Julius Masaba missed the clash against Ulinzi as they are serving a two-week suspension.
The trio were suspended for taking part in an unsanctioned match.
With performance, pressure is expected to pile on Tomas Trucha with fans demanding proper results from AFC Leopards.
Gor chaos
The pitch invasion comes just a day after Gor Mahia fans stormed Machakos Stadium causing chaos and destroying property.
The incessant fans stormed the pitch after the final whistle after their side threw away a 2-0 lead to draw with Murang’a Seal.
K’Ogalo had gone 2-0 up by halftime and looked set to get back to winning ways to ease the pressure on Brazilian head coach Leo Neiva following their 2-1 to Nairobi City Stars five days earlier.
However, things crumbled in the second half and allowed Murang’a Seal to grab a point against the decorated Murang’a Seal side.
