A political activist from Murang’a county now claims his life is in danger after a gang of unidentified people came looking for him in a hotel on the outskirts of Murang’a town on Friday.

Samuel Mwangi claims men who identified themselves as security officers stormed the hotel and started searching for him.

One of his friends who overheard them asking where he was alerted him and he managed to dash into a hideout, where he stayed until they left.

Mwangi said the alleged police officers who were heavily armed came in a vehicle with no number plates that had a siren.

In CCTV footage produced by the hotel’s management, the officers had their faces covered and were seen moving around the hotel speaking to several people and asking them where Mwangi was.

One of them had Mwangi’s photo on his phone and he showed it to people in the hotel to help them in identifying him.

“They even started harassing the staff, asking them if they had seen me and then moved to every corner of the hotel looking for me,” said Mwangi.

After the incident, went into hiding but resurfaced Monday morning, when he reported the incident at the Murang’a police station and recorded a statement.

“I managed to escape their trap and went into hiding for three days but I decided to come out and report the case and make it known to the security agents that my life is in danger,” he remarked.

At the station, he said, the officers here told him they had no information that another squad of police officers was coming in the area to make an arrest.

He said he does not know why he is being targeted but he highly suspects it is due to his political affiliation saying this is unacceptable.

“I know I am being hunted down due to my stand to support deputy president Rigathi Gachagua and I am the grounds man in the county,” he remarked.
