Likoni ferry tragedy: Autopsy on victims to be carried out Wednesday as burial date set
Postmortem examination on bodies of Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda Mutheu who died in Likoni Ferry accident two weeks ago is expected to be performed on Wednesday October 16.
The autopsy is scheduled to be conducted at Jocham Hospital by the Government Chief Pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor, who confirmed the exercise today.
“I will be in Mombasa tomorrow and the exercise is expected to begin in the afternoon,” the Pathologist told People Daily on Tuesday.
Regarding nature of the postmortem, he said it will be “just like any other autopsy seeking to establish the exact cause of death and how it happened.”
“Any death has a cause and that is what we will be seeking to establish in tomorrow’s exercise,” he said.
The news is a relief to the bereaved family who have endured long wait for the bodies since the accident occurred on September 29.
Family spokesman Luka Mbaati said burial arrangements are ongoing and the deceased are scheduled to be laid to rest Ngaamba area of Kilome Constituency in Makueni County on Saturday.
