The perennial political rivalry between Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has taken a new twist after the former’s allies dismissed the county chief’s endorsement by elders to seek the presidency.
On Friday, Kamba Clan Governing Council (KCGC) declared Kibwana as the only regions ‘firm’ presidential candidate with a capability of bringing back the community’s lost political glory.
The elders representing 22 Kamba clans led by their Chairman Boniface Kilonzo James made the declaration after visiting Kibwana at his Wote residence last week.
“We have given him our blessings to sit with other national leaders and negotiate on behalf of the community.
He has the capacity to lead the Kamba nation to prosperity so we have decided to accord him our blessings to go out and find coalitions with other leaders ahead of 2022,” said Kilonzo.
But Makueni senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr termed the endorsement as “inconsequential and contrived.”
“It is his democratic right to vie but it will be very inconsequential and it appears contrived.
There is no way Kibwana can contest and succeed on his own. He can’t even move from Makueni to Machakos alone and this is a fact known by all including: Raila, Kalonzo, Mudavadi and even Uhuru,” said Mutula Jnr.
Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo said the endorsement as an act of political conmanship saying there was no public participation amongst the clansmen before settling on Kibwana.
“As a Chairman of Atwii clan I have not heard any consultations before settling for Kibwana, so the endorsement means nothing.
Kibwana should have some respect for Kalonzo and the entire Wiper party because we sponsored him for governorship and I don’t see his political progression beyond that,” said Maanzo.
In his 10-point agenda dubbed the ”peoples development manifesto” geared towards economic democracy liberation, Kibwana is rooting for peoples sovereignty and power, respect for and implementation of the constitution ,purposive nation and warding off corruption.
